The Perry County Humane Society would like to offer to the community, FREE pet-training advice and assistance.  We also have many resources to which we can refer pet owners wishing to seek enrollment in dog-training classes or for those pets needing the help of extended services.

Statistics show that one of the top reasons pets lose their home is due to behavioral issues, namely housetraining.  In most cases, these problems can be resolved easily with just a few changes, and make life much easier for both the pet owner and the pet.  Most issues can be addressed by proper exercise & routine, consistency and positive reinforcement.

The Perry County Humane Society has many volunteers with vast experience with animals, and also has access to professional trainers that are always happy to advise us with any problems of which we need their assistance.  If any member of the community would like help with a training issue, they may e-mail the Perry County Humane Society at pchsinfo@yahoo.com.

We also recommend that before getting any new pet, potential adopters/owners research the breed(s) they may be interested in.  Some breeds like Labradors and Terriers require far more physical exercise to stay healthy and content than others.  Anyone who is not particularly active may want to reconsider before getting a breed that requires a lot of physical activity.  Some breeds’ grooming needs entail a much higher maintenance level than others, while some are much more vocal.  Generally, many of the toy and small breeds are not recommended for families with young children.

We will be happy to give advice regarding which breed may be the better fit for your family, simply send us an e-mail and we can get started today!  Together, we can find homes for all of our homeless!
